Training questions
#1
Hello Truth Seeker and anyone else who may be able to answer this. I have just recently read training focus 1 and 2 and had some questions that I did not see the book directly cover.

1. Book 2 discusses backoff and also pump sets. Are these synonymous?

2. How do you determine what the weight of your backoff set should be as a percentage of your working set? I ask because you have backoff sets stated with different rep schedules. For instance, with the Squat in one of your sample routines you give as 2x5(work) and 2x8 and 2x10 (backoff). What are the percentages of the working set for each of these rep schemes.

3. Overhead press: I've always thought of this as a pretty fundamental exercise. Why is this not included in almost any of your sample routines?

4. Assistance lifts: What sort of progression mechanism do you favor in following with these? Classic cycling? Volume appreciation?

Overall I found these books to be a wealth of information as exercise programming goes and by far the best I have ever seen on the topic. Most weight lifting books I have read include almost nothing about cycling and I think it has really been a major missing piece from my lifting. I have been for the past couple of years just doing 3x8 and adding weight when I could which means I've been stuck for most of that time with very slow or no gains after the first 8 months or so. I'm a bit overwhelmed with all the information at the moment and how best implement it but am very excited to see how I can progress with these cycling strategies.

I really appreciate how candid you are with the results we can expect. I'm looking forward to building up a lot of strength and any muscle growth that happens to come with it will just be gravy.
