OK so it was a one day new years offer for a big gym chain. Obviously they are going to try and sell the crap out of it once in but little do they know I am immune to their B*S*
I thought what the hell let's do it for a laugh.
OK so before i am allowed in they have me fill out a form.....I know i had no choice.
I get changed and enter the lair. It was packed. Grunting and sweating....and one hell of a lot of overweight people running like mad on the machine.
So straight away an instructor comes across (who was also overweight)and asks me what experience i have in the gym? I am not here to be a smart ass so i say on and off 10 years.
OK so he asks me what my number one goal is...I am thinking what will his angle be from my answer? I just say something like to "put a little more muscle on (but not too much :-) ) and lose a bit of fat.
So he then talks about how i need to do HIIT fasted 3-4x week and weight train 2x week. + They have protein ...F**** Protein bars and powders that can speed the process up...WOW....my god where have I been the past 20 years?
So he then goes over to the wright machines and he talks about doing 3x10 light reps from shoulders, chest, back, arms and legs....which i suppose is ok.
I then see the free weights and walk over and look for the biggest dumbells. Which are a whopping 20kg. I have 40kg in my garage. I se many in the 1-5kg range. Even pink ones at 0.5kg. No doubt for the girls.
I see some amazing exercises going on here. Ones i have never come across before. It must be the super advanced methods to gain muscle.
One guy has 1kg dumbells in his hands full extension and is rolling around on a swiss ball....I crack up..
I look at the barbell. It's not even an olympic bar. Some small version. There are a few plates that probably add up to about 150kg...No-one is using it.
The amount of B*S* advice i hear is mind boggling. It never changes.
"dude to get those boulder shoulders you have to do decline shoulder presses with heavy weights 4x a week"
"Remember light weights for toning and heavy for building"
"I am bulking up in 2019) From a guy that was about 25% body fat.
"I am doing the James Bond work out"
"I don't want to lift too much weight as i do not want to look like a body builder"
It was the same B*S* 10 years ago...20 years ago.....
Mind you some of the eye candy was great. Purely young, low fat women that had a little muscle tone look fantastic. It's all down hill after 30 for them no matter what hey do ...so make the most of it Great to look at.
After about 50 min's i decided to leave. In the hall back to the changing rooms i see vending machines for sweets, chocolates, crisps, protein powders, creatine etc....
On the posters are messages about all the extra classes this week:
Pump and burn
Tear and build
The challenge
60 minutes of hell
Jees it's like a movie set.
And i see obese people everywhere. All that effort/time/money and still they are obese? Something isn't working is it?
The relaxaton area is filled with people on the phones with creamy coffees and cakes after a long work out. "they deserved it...right"
Workout 300 cal's. Cake and drink 700+ cal's = fatter
They are trapped in the Matrix. They took the other pill (i can't remember the colours)
I would have thought with so much information at a persons finger tips they would filter out the b*S now. But it actually seems worse. The B*S* rose to the surface and the truth got supressed.
Adios gym......never again...unless i fancy another peek at the eye candy.
