I got a free ticket to a commercial gym
#1
OK so it was a one day new years offer for a big gym chain. Obviously they are going to try and sell the crap out of it once in but little do they know I am immune to their B*S*

I thought what the hell let's do it for a laugh.

OK so before i am allowed in they have me fill out a form.....I know i had no choice.

I get changed and enter the lair. It was packed. Grunting and sweating....and one hell of a lot of overweight people running like mad on the machine.

So straight away an instructor comes across (who was also overweight)and asks me what experience i have in the gym?  I am not here to be a smart ass so i say on and off 10 years.

OK so he asks me what my number one goal is...I am thinking what will his angle be from my answer? I just say something like to "put a little more muscle on (but not too much :-) ) and lose a bit of fat.

So he then talks about how i need to do HIIT fasted 3-4x week and weight train 2x week. + They have protein ...F**** Protein bars and powders that can speed the process up...WOW....my god where have I been the past 20 years?

So he then goes over to the wright machines and he talks about doing 3x10 light reps from shoulders, chest, back, arms and legs....which i suppose is ok.

I then see the free weights and walk over and look for the biggest dumbells. Which are a whopping 20kg. I have 40kg in my garage. I se many in the 1-5kg range. Even pink ones at 0.5kg. No doubt for the girls.

I see some amazing exercises going on here. Ones i have never come across before. It must be the super advanced methods to gain muscle.

One guy has 1kg dumbells in his hands full extension and is rolling around on a swiss ball....I crack up..

I look at the barbell.  It's not even an olympic bar. Some small version. There are a few plates that probably add up to about 150kg...No-one is using it.

The amount of B*S* advice i hear is mind boggling. It never changes.
"dude to get those boulder shoulders you have to do decline shoulder presses with heavy weights 4x a week"
"Remember light weights for toning and heavy for building"
"I am bulking up in 2019) From a guy that was about 25% body fat.
"I am doing the James Bond work out"
"I don't want to lift too much weight as i do not want to look like a body builder"

It was the same B*S* 10 years ago...20 years ago.....

Mind you some of the eye candy was great. Purely young, low fat women that had a little muscle tone look fantastic. It's all down hill after 30 for them no matter what hey do ...so make the most of it Great to look at.

After about 50 min's i decided to leave. In the hall back to the changing rooms i see vending machines for sweets, chocolates, crisps, protein powders, creatine etc....

On the posters are messages about all the extra classes this week:

Pump and burn
Tear and build
The challenge
60 minutes of hell

Jees it's like a movie set.

And  i see obese people everywhere. All that effort/time/money and still they are obese? Something isn't working is it?

The relaxaton area is filled with people on the phones with creamy coffees and cakes after a long work out. "they deserved it...right"

Workout 300 cal's. Cake and drink 700+ cal's = fatter

They are trapped in the Matrix. They took the other pill (i can't remember the colours)

I would have thought with so much information at a persons finger tips they would filter out the b*S now. But it actually seems worse. The B*S* rose to the surface and the truth got supressed.

Adios gym......never again...unless i fancy another peek at the eye candy.

Haha, good review bro - pretty much sum story about any gym
Most of these fat people that you mention who frequent gyms never commit themselves long to training - they hit the gym a couple of weeks and after that it's the same old story, while pleased gym owners collects money from that endless circle

Yeah i hear the gyms are packed in January...then it starts to tail off until mid summer...then dies off again.
You can imagine all the new years resolutions about getting fit....for about 2 weeks.

Going to the gym for the average working class family guy/women is too tie consuming. They are better off getting home weights and then doing a run once a week....90% is diet.

"90% is diet" is well said

About sums every commercial gym up...

Shows, the same all over the world.

What the hell is a toilet creeper"? Sounds like a horror movie  Confused

I am amazed at how many fat people work at gyms.It does make me chuckle....Fat P.T's trying to give advice..

Year ago when i went one guy i got on with told me they had targets to hit all the time. Sell so many classes, upgrades, supplements, etc... They could never be harsh or criticise any customers..always praise etc....

No different to a car sales yard really. SELL..SELL..SELL

Omg I was laughing good. Good review! I go to my uncles gym time to time for a change of pace. I almost immediately realize why I work out in my garage alone right away. Waiting on people to get off equipment. Tons of useless shit. The only high point is def looking at the women. By far the best reason to go lol

Ah, the changing room toliet creepers...

Jim, thats the weirdo's that stand stir at people while they change or dry themselves after having a shower, some of them even think its an good time to strike up and conversation, despite never speaking to ya before.

Yes PTs, they really do take me to the fair, some are overweight, many ive seen smoke and binge drink, most cook their skin on sunbeds, many live off energy drinks and consume a shitty diet....and these are the people paid to give exercise and health advice Huh Oh whata world, whata world.

Sales targets, 100%, they all have sales teams and monthly targets to hit. I used to sometimes wonder how the small "old school" independent back street gyms survive in today's climite, ive since found out, the owners make their money selling gear, their gyms are merely a platform / front.

Best advice i could give to anyone would be to avoid these toxic enviroments altogether.

Sounds a bit gay....
Sad

You think it's like us being allowed in the female changing rooms....be like Christmas day...

SHUDDER

With all the PC crap about trans gender coming out....what are they going to do now? Allow men to say they are women and vice versa?

^^ yep about sums the world up these days^^

In the local swimming pool dad's bring their 9-13 year old daughters into the men's changing room....which I think is unbelievable. Why an't they get changed by them-selves? Daddy has to hold their hand and bring them into the male changing room.

If a guy is there naked and she looks at him it's the guy that gets the daggers.....

They see nothing wrong with this.. Unbelievable.

We seem to be living in a more "selfish" world where no one has the right to point anything out to anyone.
