How far back can a christmas binge put you in the war against lard?
Short answer, not far at all. Huge answer, below
Christmas is a time of period when you share your time with family and friends. Eating together is a bonding thing, and trust me you may not enjoy the company of many family members for long, so make those "christmas days" count to the max. Now there are a few tips you can try, in order to minimize overeating
1) Before going to the dinner, do intermittent fasting. This is an excellent way to "save" some calories for your big meals and favourite foods
2) Drink at least 2 glasses of water before sitting down to eat. This will reduce your appetite.
3) Workout really hard the day before or the days before Christmas Eve. This will increase your glycogen stores/fat stores and will make you store most of the food as energy and not as fat.
4) After the meal, if possible, go for a walk with your family.
5) Always have plenty of lean meat at your plate, and start with lean meat and salad first.
This... Tbh, even if you dont do all this, you still aint gonna increase your bf% by much, if at all. There is a thing called supercompensation, and your body does that when you eat large amounts of protein/carbs. When all your glycogen stores are full, your body increases your body temperature as a way to burn off excess calories. Also, if you are not competing in something very strict in nature, like bodybuilding, you have no fear of gaining a little bit of bodyfat. Use all that extra energy to push yourself at the gym the next few days and i guarantee you you are going to get new prs the days following christmas eve.
Stay happy, and stay healthy. 1 day wont do jackshit. A whole year has 365 days, its what you do in the rest 364 that matters, not just 1 single day
